I have shot many high school rodeos. Many in Montana when I used to live up there but as I have moved back to Colorado the rodeos are few and FAR between. But, I was talked into bringing my camera to the four day long high school rodeo that was happening in my neck of the woods.
I will split these highlights up into at least two different posts because there are just so many good ones and I want them all to get their own time to shine.
On the Friday of Labor Day weekend I headed out to Cortez to check out the cutting and reining events. I have shot plenty of cuttings in my day, but I was still nervous. I didn’t know if people would be welcoming to me being there or if I was allowed but I went for it anyway.
Since this event was so big these athletes had to compete back to back since the arena would need to be used for other rodeo events. I shot the first two rounds of cutting and light was beginning to fade. I stuck around for the first round of reining which was so fun to watch. These kids know their stuff and did a great job in the arena. I got to play with low light, action and finding the perfect spot to set up. I think they turned out great. Here is the highlight gallery.
Stay tuned for the rest of the high school rodeo highlights!
