True Western Roundup Women’s Rodeo

Rodeos have been sparse this year especially around southwest Colorado and New Mexico. Luckily at 1 pm Saturday October, 24 True Western Roundup will be hosting the Cowgirls Kickin’ Cancer Iron Cowgirl Challenge at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds in Cortez, Colorado.

October is not only spooky season, it is also breast cancer awareness month. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It is also the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancer. This means that more than 250,000 women will be diagnosed a year, but there are ways we can help.

By attending the True Western Roundup Women’s Rodeo you will be contributing to a large donation to local organizations for breast cancer awareness.

There are many places you can donate, such as larger organizations like the National Breast Cancer Foundation or the American Cancer Society, that help with research. There are also many fundraisers locally to help individual women battling breast cancer such as events or scholarships in their memory.

In this rodeo each woman will have to compete in five of the seven events to be crowned the Iron Cowgirl. Some featured events are breakaway roping, barrel racing and bull riding. This is an event you won’t want to miss.
